Project Description: Casting "Write Like Fight Night," a play. This is an immersive play in a boxing gym inside of a boxing ring. The play is a screenwriting class using the Ali/Frazier Method to teach writing structure through hero's journey dynamics.

Male | African-American | Age: 29 - 35 Looking for a Muhammad Ali resembling actor. Needs to be muscular and look to be in boxing shape. No tattoos. Muhammad Ali will pretend to fight Joe Frazier in the Ali/Frazier 1 fight. The action will be started and stopped in accordance with the curriculum being taught by the instructor of the course, played by the referee.
JOE FRAZIER |
Male | African-American | Age: 29 - 40 Looking for a Joe Frazier resembling actor. Needs to be muscular and look to be in boxing shape. No tattoos. Joe Frazier will pretend to fight Muhammad Ali in the Ali/Frazier 1 fight. The action will be started and stopped in accordance with the curriculum being taught by the instructor of the course, played by the referee.
DR. FERDI PECHECO |
Male | Hispanic | Age: 40 - 55 Looking for a Ferdi Pecheco resembling actor. Needs to look natural in glasses and should be slightly plus size in stature with black hair and preferably a bald spot. Ferdi Pecheco is the fight doctor and cut man in the Ali/Frazier 1 fight and thusly the play. He enters the ring with Ali and tends to him in between round throughout the play.
BUNDINI BROWN |
Male | African-American | Age: 45 - 55 Looking for a Bundini Brown resembling actor. Needs to look intense and discerning with a prototypically African American gaze and scowl. He should look natural in an afro or an afro with a bald spot and have an infectious personality. Bundini Brown is Ali's hype man in the Ali/Frazier 1 fight and shouts commands of commendation to Ali throughout the fight. He will move around the ring in accordance with the flow of the action.
JOHNNY ADDIE |
Male | Caucasian | Age: 45 - 60 Looking for a Johnnie Addie resembling actor. Needs to be an older white or Italian male who looks good in a tuxedo(which they should be able to provide for the role). He should have a commanding and audacious voice, one that would be used to announce fights or players on a basketball court. He should look natural in glasses and have slicked back Italian hair for the role. Johnny Addie is seen in the beginning of the fight to call it and at the end of the fight to announce the winner, but will be utilized as a the voice of conscience, sitting ringside, throughout the fight.
BURT LANCASTER |
Male | Caucasian | Age: 45 - 50 Looking for a Burt Lancaster resembling actor. Needs to be a good looking middle aged white male who looks good in a tuxedo (which he will be responsible for providing) and has a smooth charismatic presence on stage and on the microphone. Must have a charming and remarkable voice and should sound overly confident like a know-it-all. Burt Lancaster was the ringside commentator for the Ali/Frazier 1 fight and will be positioned ringside along with Archie Moore and Johnny Addie. Burt is responsible for the culturally inappropriate micro-expressions throughout the fight.
ARCHIE MOORE |
Male | African-American | Age: 45 - 60
Looking for an Archie Moore resembling actor. Needs to be an older man who has the aesthetic and disposition of a grandfather who speaks volumes with a stoic look. Think, Sherman's father in The Nutty Professor but with muscles. The actor will need to provide a blue suit, with a blue shirt and black bowtie. The actor should know how to radiate a look of hurt pride and racial indignation when insulted by covert Jim Crow comments. Archie Moore was one of the ringside commentators in the Ali/Frazier 1 fight and will be positioned ringside along with Burt Lancaster and Johnny Addie. Archie gets begrudged by Burt Lancaster during the commentating of the fight and will be made light of periodically throughout the fight to express the anguish of the writer's internal Black voice.
SATIN DOLL |
Female | Any Ethnicity | Age: 40 - 60 Looking for a Satin Doll resembling actor. Needs to be a good looking middle aged to older Black woman with natural hair (preferably an afro) who's in good shape for her age. Think Ms. Parker from Friday. Satin Doll is the ring card girl for the fight meaning that she saunters around in attire resembling an Afrocentric bathing suit holding the curriculum, instead of the cards for the fight rounds. She must be alluring and have a captivating walk. Must exude class and showmanship.
