Eric is Pam and Paul’s eldest child. Having been a moody, camera-shy teen, he’s grown into an independent young man studying computer science at Brandeis University. The morning of September 11th, not being able to get in touch with his family back in New Jersey, he’s eager to get home to be with them. In the film, Eric appears in traces only: in a series of family photos in the living room, and in the family answering machine greeting (when the character was 16-17). Actor will be needed for a voiceover session and a family photo shoot.

Young man, 20. Justin studies jazz performance at a nearby university, and he works a part-time gig at RadioShack in Wayne. He’s living through the digital transformation era just as Pam is, but he’s adapting well and happy to share his knowledge of technology with others. Justin is eager to please and easy-going in a way that both betrays his lack of real-world experience and suits him well for customer service. When he helps Pam with her answering machine at RadioShack, he breaks her heart, quite unknowingly.

Where Paul is gregarious and bold, Pam is demure; where Paul is confident and adaptable, Pam requires more time to accept change; where Paul is optimistic, Pam is pragmatic; but they have always been a team of equals who complement and help one another well. When Paul doesn’t come home on September 11th, Pam is at a loss for what to do, but must carry on and support her family. She has the misfortune of living during the rise of digital technology and being behind the curve on that transition, so when she attempts to save Paul’s last message on their answering machine, she takes the machine to RadioShack for help.
